Why

should I

adopt a pet?

The real question is, why shouldn’t I adopt? Pets are always there for us when we need it. They are our best friends, our stress relievers after a bad day at work, and the best teachers in life. Many of the pets that come in to your local shelter are lost or have been given up by families. All they need is for someone to provide them with the lifelong love and attention they all deserve. It’s up to you to make the difference.

Adoption Information

Find out how to adopt a pet quick & easy
  • How do I adopt a pet?

Once you are committed in finding the best addition to your family, stop in to our shelter and see who we have available! Nothing beats meeting your new best friend in person. We are located at 1110 Short Dr., Prudenville, MI 48651. Our dedicated shelter staff will help direct you towards the dogs and cats longing to slather your face with kisses.

  • Are there any adoption requirements?

Yes. You must be 18 years old with a valid driver’s license and willing to give your adopted pet the best life possible. Their lives are so much shorter than ours and they deserve the best with the time they have. If you adopt an unaltered (not spayed or neutered) animal, you will be required to sign an adoption agreement stating you will have the animal spayed or neutered after adoption. The best way to prevent overpopulation and animal shelters is spay and neuter!

  • How to avoid picking the wrong pet?

Face-to-face visits! We can’t stress enough the best way in picking the right pet for you is by coming in and getting some play time. We also recommend bringing in your kids and any other current pets you may have to see how they interact with a new dog or cat. This initial bonding time is critical and can tell you so much in choosing the right pet.

  • Vet Q&A: Are pets for adoption healthy?

Absolutely! All of our pets receive age appropriate vaccinations, deworming, and flea treatment before leaving with their new family.
